National Union of Public and General Employees Scholarships ($1,500)

This scholarship is open to Grade 12 students who are planning to attend a post-secondary education institution full-time in 2015 – 2016 and who are the children, grandchildren or foster children of a NUPGE member. Please see a counselor in Student Services or go to www.nupge.ca/scholarships for information and application forms for The Tommy Douglas Scholarship, The Terry Fox Memorial Scholarship, The Scholarship for Aboriginal Canadians, and The Scholarship for Visible minorities. The deadline to apply is July 6th, 2016.

 

Conexus Community Youth Leadership Award ($500)

The Conexus Community Youth Leadership Award is presented to a graduating high school student who demonstrates co-operative spirit, community involvement, and leadership. The goal is to promote the benefits of being a Conexus Credit Union member and to recognize the contributions made to their school and community. Information about the award, as well as an application form, can be found at the website www.conexus.ca/AboutConexus/OurCommunity/LeadershipAward

Students must email a completed application form, reference letters (community leader, school faculty) and a report card or transcript. Additional criteria includes the following:

  • Must be a graduating high school student in Saskatchewan
  • Must be a Conexus Credit Union Member (or parent/guardian of applicant) for at least one year and accounts must be in good standing.
  • Must be a Saskatchewan resident
  • Award recipients must submit and grant permission to use his/her name and photo in any and all media releases or publications controlled by Conexus
  • Completed applications must be received by Conexus by midnight on April 1, 2016.  Late submissions will not be considered.
 

Les and Irene Dube Service and Justice Scholarship ($2,000)

A student will be presented with a $2,000 scholarship at St Mary Grad 2016. To apply for this scholarship, a student must be enrolling as a full-time student in an Arts and Science program at the University of Saskatchewan through St. Thomas More College for their first year of study. The student must also agree to participate fully in the Service and Justice program, administered by the Engaged Learning Coordinator, which requires two hours of community volunteer work per week, excluding holiday and exam periods. As well, the student must have a minimum 80% average based on the following classes: Christian Ethics 20 or 30, ELA A30 or B30, three 30 level electives (but not PAA30 or Phys. Ed. 30), have demonstrated outstanding leadership and Christian service during their high school years, and be recommended by a Christian Ethics teacher. Alex Prytula Award ($1,500)

Both a male and female student will be presented with a $1500 award at St Mary Grad 2016. The criteria for the award is as follows: outstanding contributions, financial need, and academics. The deadline to apply is Monday, April 4th at 3:30 p.m. Application forms are available online at http://bit.ly/SMHSGradAwards . Please note that a digital photo, of the applicant doing an activity this year, must also be submitted to the main office with the completed application form.

 

Saskatchewan Polytechnic Advisor at SMHS

Rotary Club Adventures in Citizenship 2016

The Rotary Club of Ottawa presents “Adventures in Citizenship 2016”, from May 1 – May 4, 2016 in Ottawa, Ontario for students ages 16 – 18. This annual event provides a unique opportunity for a selected group of 200 young Canadians to come together and gain a better understanding of our country. Through meetings with political leaders, senior officials and others, they learn a great deal about the workings of our democratic institutions. Through meeting one another and having discussions among themselves, they learn to appreciate the diversity of Canada and the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship. St. Thomas More College (STM) is a Catholic liberal arts college that is federated with the University of Saskatchewan. Their students are U of S Arts & Science students and STM students at the same time. Their classes are U of S credit classes.
