Tuesday, January 19th, 2021The Junior Citizen of the Year award has honoured the youth of Saskatchewan for over 40 years. The program is sponsored by The Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association, in partnership with SaskPower, and the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. These prestigious awards are given to students who:
- Have a positive lifestyle
- Are dedicated to community and school
- Have a strong sense of caring and responsibility
- Have the ability to overcome life’s challenges
- Inspire others
- Are between ages 8 to 18
Four award recipients are chosen each year and receive a $3,000 bursary, provided by SaskPower, to be used for post-secondary education. For more information, please go to https://swna.com/junior-citizen-of-the-year/. The deadline for nominations is March 31st, 2021.
2020 Conexus Youth Leadership Award
Monday, June 8th, 2020The Conexus Youth Leadership recognizes 2020 high school graduates across Saskatchewan who show leadership in everything they do. Conexus will award 10 Grade 12 graduates across Saskatchewan with $1,500 and recognize them through our social media channels. Each winner will receive a $500 cash prize and $1,000 deposited into a Conexus term account, which can be withdrawn after one year, starting June 1, 2021. Stacey Levitt Memorial Award
Wednesday, January 22nd, 2020The Stacey Levitt Memorial Award was created in memory and celebration of Stacey’s life by her family through Parachute. This award encourages Canadian youth to embody Stacey’s qualities and ideals and Parachute’s overarching goals of a long life lived to the fullest, understanding the importance of risk management and injury prevention. The Levitt family awards each year’s selected recipient $2,500 to help them live their life to the fullest. The award could be put toward an educational endeavor, engagement in sports and investment in a travel experience. These pursuits would have resonated with Stacey, who loved school, sports and travel. The deadline to apply is February 28th, 2020. The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award
Wednesday, December 4th, 2019The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award ($28,000 dispersed over four years) is open to students of all abilities who are pursuing a degree or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution. Recipients are selected for their dedication to the humanitarian ideals of Terry Fox to improve human welfare, make a difference, and have a positive impact on community and others, their courage in overcoming obstacles (physical, financial, etc.), and definite marks of distinction and persistence in the pursuit of excellence in academic, athletic, and civic life. Vimy Pilgrimage Award
Tuesday, November 5th, 2019The Vimy Pilgrimage Award consists of a fully funded week-long educational program in Belgium and France to study Canada’s tremendous First World War contribution. The program, scheduled for April 2–10, 2020, is offered by the Vimy Foundation and features daily visits to important First World War sites including museums, cemeteries, and historic battlefields. A total of 20 students will be selected for the 2020 program. Applicants are required to submit a 500-word essay describing their volunteer work; a 500 word essay on a specific question or subject posted in the application form; a personal statement video; a resume detailing achievements, awards, and notable activities; and a reference letter from a teacher, guidance counselor or principal, service club, volunteer organization, etc. In choosing Award winners, the Award Committee will take into consideration all elements submitted for the application with special emphasis placed on the applicant’s volunteer work and service to their communities. General Proficiency Awards: Grade 9 – Grade 11
Tuesday, April 16th, 2019GENERAL PROFICIENCY AWARDS: Grade 9 – Grade 11
The General Proficiency Award for students in Grade 9 – Grade 11 is to be given to the student who makes the most complete contribution to the whole life of St. Mary High School and is based on the following criteria: academic achievement 50%, athletic contributions 20%, school life contributions 20%, and religious life contributions 10%. Application forms are available at the library, or online at http://bit.ly/AwardsGrade9-11 and must be returned to the LIBRARY by Thursday, May 23rd at 3:30 p.m. These awards will be presented at the school celebration/awards assembly on Wednesday, June 5th.
Rotary Citizenship Award: Grade 11
Tuesday, April 16th, 2019Grade 11 students are encouraged to apply for the Rotary Citizenship Award to be presented at the awards presentation in June. This $300 award is presented to a Grade 11 student who is involved in the school, community, and parish. The application forms are available at http://bit.ly/AwardsGrade9-11 on the school’s career website and must be submitted to the LIBRARY by Thursday, May 23rd at 3:30 p.m. The student’s academic transcript and attendance will also be given to the awards selection committee. This award will be presented at the school celebration/awards assembly on Wednesday, June 5th.
Major/Minor Sports Award
Tuesday, April 16th, 2019Students in Grade 12 may be eligible for a Major/Minor Sports Award that will be presented at the school celebration/awards assembly on Wednesday, June 5th. The application forms are available at the LIBRARY or at http://bit.ly/AwardGrade12 on the school’s career website. Completed forms must be returned to the LIBRARY by Thursday, May 23rd.
