Junior Citizen of the Year Award

The Junior Citizen of the Year award has honoured the youth of Saskatchewan for over 40 years. The program is sponsored by The Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association, in partnership with SaskPower, and the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan.  These prestigious awards are given to kids who: Have a positive lifestyle, Are dedicated to community and school, Have a strong sense of caring and responsibility, Have the ability to overcome life’s challenges, Inspire others, Are between ages 8 to 18.  Four award recipients are chosen each year and receive a $3,000 bursary provided by SaskPower, to be used for their post-secondary education. For more information, please go to www.swna.com The call for nominations is now open. Deadline for nominations is March 31st, 2018.

Loran Award

The Loran Award seeks to recognize well-rounded students who demonstrate character, promise of leadership, and strong commitment and service in the community. Up to 32 Loran Awards are available, valued at $100,000 over four years. The application deadline is October 18th, 2017 for sponsored applications and October 25th, 2017 for direct-pool applications. St. Mary High School can sponsor up to three candidates and sponsorship is competitive. Please provide a list of school/community involvement and leadership activities to Mrs.Rapin in Student Services by Monday, October 2, 2017 if you would like to be considered for sponsorship. Nominations: Most Gentlemanly and Deportment Awards

“The recipient of this award displays the words and actions of the following criteria: is welcoming and inclusive, is non-judgmental, and is respectful of self, other students, and staff.” A nomination form is available at the main office or at http://bit.ly/SMHSGradAwards on the Pursue Online website. Nomination forms are due at the main office by Friday, May 19th at 3:30 p.m.

Grade 11: Rotary Citizenship Award

Grade 11 students are encouraged to apply for the Rotary Citizenship Award to be presented at the awards presentation in June. This $250 award is presented to a Grade 11 student who is involved in the school, community, and parish. The application form, available at http://bit.ly/2oQeNhR on the Pursueonline career website, must be submitted to the main office by Monday, May 15th at 3:30 p.m. The student’s academic transcript and attendance will also be given to the awards selection committee.

SMHS Grad 2017 Awards

Students who are interested in applying for awards that will be presented at Grad 2017 must submit a Grad 2017 Awards Application Checklist Cover Page and a Grad 2017 Awards Application. These forms, as well as forms for General Proficiency Application, Royal Canadian Legion Verification, and The Sisters of Our Ladies of the Cross Scholarship Application are available at http://bit.ly/SMHSGradAwards An awards package containing the description of the awards is available at the main office. The checklist cover page, awards application, and other required documents must be submitted to the main office by Friday, May 19th at 3:30 p.m.

The Catholic Women’s League of Canada – Social Justice Award

The Saskatchewan Provincial Council of the Catholic Women’s League has established a $1000 Social Justice Award to enable young women to engage in social justice work. The awards application deadline is April 30, 2017. For information on award criteria and an application form, see Mrs. Rapin in Student Services.

Les and Irene Dube Service and Justice Scholarship

A student will be presented with a $2,000 scholarship at St Mary Grad 2017. To apply for this scholarship, a student must be enrolling as a full-time student in an Arts and Science program at the University of Saskatchewan through St. Thomas More College for their first year of study and enroll in at least six credit units through the college. The student must also agree to participate fully in the Service and Justice program, administered by the Engaged Learning Coordinator, which requires two hours of community volunteer work per week, excluding holiday and exam periods. As well, the student must have a minimum 80% average based on the following classes: Christian Ethics 20 or 30, ELA A30 or B30, three 30 level electives (but not PAA30 or Phys. Ed. 30), have demonstrated outstanding leadership and Christian service during their high school years, and be recommended by a Christian Ethics teacher. Alex Prytula Award

Both a male and female student will be presented with a $2000 award at St Mary Grad 2017. The criteria for the award is as follows: outstanding contributions, financial need, and academics. The deadline to apply is Monday, April 10th at 3:30 p.m. Application forms are available online at http://bit.ly/SMHSGradAwards . Please note that a digital photo, of the applicant doing an activity this year, must also be submitted to the main office with the completed application form.

   

U of S Competitive Entrance Awards

Students who have applied to the U of S can apply online for Competitive Entrance Awards. Applications links can be found in your PAWS Account. The deadline to apply for Competitive Entrance Awards is March 1, 2017.

The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award

The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award ($28,000 dispersed over four years) is open to students of all abilities who are pursuing a degree or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution. Recipients are selected for their dedication to the humanitarian ideals of Terry Fox to improve human welfare, make a difference, and have a positive impact on community and others, their courage in overcoming obstacles (physical, financial, etc.), and definite marks of distinction and persistence in the pursuit of excellence in academic, athletic, and civic life.
