Grade 9-11: General Proficiency Award

Students in Grade 9-11 are encouraged to apply for the General Proficiency Award to be presented at the awards presentation in June. “The General Proficiency Award will be presented to the student who makes the most complete contribution to the whole life of St. Mary High School. Participation in all aspects of school life  academics, religious life, and school-sponsored activities  will be considered.” The application form, available at http://bit.ly/2oQeNhR on the Pursue Online career website, must be submitted to the main office by Monday, May 15th at 3:30 p.m. 

Agriculture-Related Post-Secondary Education

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture awards a grand-prize scholarship of $4,000 and three runner-up scholarships of $2,000 for students who thinkAG. Applicants need to produce a three-minute creative video or write a well-researched fact-based 1,000-word essay sharing their food story; and provide proof of acceptance to a post-secondary institution and a letter of recommendation from a teacher, agriculture industry or community leader. Note that immediate family of the Government of Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation employees are not eligible to apply. The application deadline is March 1, 2017. Schulich Leader Scholarship Nominee

The Schulich Leader Scholarship is a prestigious entrance scholarship awarded to a high school graduate enrolling in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) program at partner universities. The criteria includes: academic excellence, leadership, and financial need.  Any students interested in being the St. Mary Nominee for the Schulich Leader Scholarship can see Mrs. Rapin in Student Services before Friday, January 13, 2017. U of R: ADMISSION ON THE SPOT

The University of Regina, which uses 20-level or 30-level classes for admission, allows students to register and be admitted on the spot – including free U of R mittens! The next “Admission on the Spot” events will be November 30th from 3:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in Saskatoon, and December 1st from 3:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in Regina. U of R: COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

Students applying to the College of Education must select the Teacher Education Application Profile (TEAP) when starting the online application process. Students can review the TEAP before completing the online application at http://www.uregina.ca/education/future-students/how-to-apply.html , or attend an application workshop on Thursday, December 1st at 6:00 p.m. The deadline to apply is March 1st 2017.

U of S U-Start Registration Workshops

The annual U-Start registration workshops for new U of S students will be held Saturday, May 14, 2016 (2 pm – 5 pm) and Thursday, June 2, 2016 (6 pm – 8pm) at St. Mary High School. The workshops will give new students an introduction to the tools and information they need to prepare for university. Topics will cover:

  • ​How to choose and register for classes
  • How to use online tools like PAWS and course/program catalogue
  • How to pay tuition, find a place to live, and buy textbooks

Les and Irene Dube Service and Justice Scholarship ($2,000)

A student will be presented with a $2,000 scholarship at St Mary Grad 2016. To apply for this scholarship, a student must be enrolling as a full-time student in an Arts and Science program at the University of Saskatchewan through St. Thomas More College for their first year of study. The student must also agree to participate fully in the Service and Justice program, administered by the Engaged Learning Coordinator, which requires two hours of community volunteer work per week, excluding holiday and exam periods. As well, the student must have a minimum 80% average based on the following classes: Christian Ethics 20 or 30, ELA A30 or B30, three 30 level electives (but not PAA30 or Phys. Ed. 30), have demonstrated outstanding leadership and Christian service during their high school years, and be recommended by a Christian Ethics teacher. Alex Prytula Award ($1,500)

Both a male and female student will be presented with a $1500 award at St Mary Grad 2016. The criteria for the award is as follows: outstanding contributions, financial need, and academics. The deadline to apply is Monday, April 4th at 3:30 p.m. Application forms are available online at http://bit.ly/SMHSGradAwards . Please note that a digital photo, of the applicant doing an activity this year, must also be submitted to the main office with the completed application form.
