U of S Greystone Scholarship

Grade 12 students, who in Grade 11 achieved an average of 95% or higher based on a five-subject formula, are eligible for nomination to the Greystone Scholars Society. Among the many perks is a $3,000 scholarship. Please see Mrs. McLeod regarding nomination. The nomination deadline is November 1st, 2011. U of S Admission Workshop

The U of S will be presenting an admissions workshop for students on Thursday, November 17th during Period 5 in Rm 229. A recruitment officer from the U of S will demonstrate how to apply online for admission, as well as answer questions about U of S programs and services, awards, scholarships and bursaries. (For example, if you apply for admission, pay the $90 application fee and report your marks by February 15th, it will maximize your award potential. The deadline for Competitive Entrance Awards is February 15th, 2012.)

To attend, students must get permission from their Period 5 teacher and complete a pink “Out of Class” permission slip available at Student Services.

High Demand Programs at SIAST

Last Day for Semester 1 Course Changes

Tuesday, September 6th is the last day Grade 10, 11 and 12 students may request a course change. The student must meet with a guidance counsellor, complete a form, obtain parental permission and return course textbooks to the library.

TD Scholarships for Community Leadership

TD Scholarships (value $70 000) are open to students across Canada who are in Grade 12 and have demonstrated outstading community leadership. Please see Mrs. McLeod for an application form or download one at www.td.com/scholarship The application deadline is October 31st.

Loran Award

Students who demonstrate character, service and leadership, are  committed to serving others, have a potential as leaders, strive for academic excellence,  are of strong moral character, are independent thinkers, and are willing to take meaningful risks, may be interested in applying for the Loran Award. Career in Aviation

Are you interested in a career as a pilot, aircraft maintenance engineer, air traffic controller, flight attendant, or in any other aviation related field? If you are, see Mr. Miller about attending a “Careers in Aviation” information session on October 28th at the Saskatoon Inn. Deadline for application is October 7th.

Adventures in Agriculture Program

The Rotary club will sponsor a student to attend Adventures in Agriculture. This five-day program is held in Regina during the week of Agribition (November 23st – 27th). Any student interested in agriculture and broadening your knowledge of the agriculture sector, environmental issues, and the challenge of providing food for the world, may apply to attend. The Victoria Hospital and Herb Bassett Home welcomes teens in Grades 8 – 12 to join the Youth-In-Action Volunteer Program.  Application forms may be picked up at the hospital, at the school, downloaded from the hospital website at www.paphr.sk.ca , or picked up at the Victoria Hospital switchboard.

All applications must be returned to the hospital by Friday, September 9th. Please call 765-6119 for more information.

What is Engineering?

The College of Engineering and the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan invite Grade 12 students to particpate in a full day of presentations at the U of S on Tuesday, November 8th or at the U of R on Wednesday, November 9th. Each event consists of presentations given by practising professional engineers, university professors and administrators, and university students with the objective of providing an accurate overview of what engineers do, and the variety of engineering programs offered.
