CACERMDI Annual Essay & Quiz Competition

The Canadian Centre for Raw Materials Display Inc. (CACERMDI) is pleased to announce the commencement of its Annual Essay & Quiz Competition for grades 9-12 students! The essay topic is “Global Shortage of Raw Materials: Causes, Effects and Solutions”. The Essay & Quiz Competition involves three stages from May 15, 2023 to June 16, 2023.   

Stage 1: Essays are to be submitted by May 15, 2023 via email to info@cacermdi.ca or cacermdi@gmail.com. The essays will be marked, and only successful entrants will be contacted for Stage 2.  

Stage 2: Successful entrants will be invited to the quiz competition on June 16, 2023. The quiz competition will focus on all raw materials in Canada, with emphasis on the ones Canada is leading in terms of its production, as well as a few questions about the ones imported into Canada from other countries.   

Stage 3: A ceremony will be held on CACERMDI Raw Materials Day and prizes will be awarded. The ceremony will be hosted in Prince Albert, but will also be available virtually.

Rotary Citizenship Award

Grade 11 and 12 students are encouraged to apply for the Rotary Citizenship Award. This $400 award is presented to a Grade 11 or 12 student with criteria that includes, strong academics, with involvement within the school environment, as well as the community and parish. In addition, the student should be planning some type of post-secondary education or training to enhance personal skills. To be considered for this award, please complete an application by clicking the link below. The deadline to apply is Friday, May 12th and the scholarship will be presented during the Thanksgiving for the Year and Awards Assembly on Wednesday, June 7th. Rotary Citizenship Award Application Form

General Proficiency Award: Grade 9-11

The General Proficiency Award for students in Grade 9 – 11 is to be given to the student from each grade who makes the most complete contribution to the whole life of École St. Mary High School based on the following criteria: academic achievement 50%, extra-curricular contributions 40%, and religious life contributions 10%. This award will be presented at our “Thanksgiving for the School Year Celebration and Awards Assembly” on June 7th. Major/Minor Sports Awards: Grade 12

The Major/Minor Sports awards are presented to grade 12 students that have showcased a significant involvement with athletics during their time at École St. Mary High School. If you are in grade 12, you may be eligible for a Major/Minor Sports Award that will be presented during the ‘Thanksgiving for the School Year Celebration and Awards Assembly’. Elwood Harvey Co-operative Leadership Award

Grade 11 students who are a member of Affinity Credit Union or have a parent or guardian who is a member are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Each student receives a $2500 award upon completion of the leadership program. Twenty students are accepted into the program. This award is offered by our District Councils, who have been elected to represent their communities within the Credit Union. The program gives recipients the opportunity to participate in their local District Council meetings and a variety of other events during their grade 12 year! 2023 Amazon Canada: Youth Short Story

The Youth Short Story Category invites authors between the ages of thirteen and seventeen to submit a short story under 3,000 words. The winner in this category will receive $5,000 and the five finalists will each receive $500. Junior Citizen of the Year: $3000

The Junior Citizen of the Year award has honoured the youth of Saskatchewan for over 40 years. The program is sponsored by The Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association, in partnership with SaskPower, and the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan.  These prestigious awards are given to students who:

  • Have a positive lifestyle
  • Are dedicated to community and school
  • Have a strong sense of caring and responsibility
  • Have the ability to overcome life’s challenges
  • Inspire others
  • Are between ages 8 to 18

Four award recipients are chosen each year and receive a $3,000 bursary, provided by SaskPower, to be used for post-secondary education. For more information, please go to https://swna.com/junior-citizen-of-the-year/. The deadline for nominations is March 31st, 2023.
