Junior Citizen of the Year: Nominations

The Junior Citizen of the Year award has honoured the youth of Saskatchewan for over 40 years. The program is sponsored by The Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association, in partnership with SaskPower, and the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan.  These prestigious awards are given to students who:

  • Have a positive lifestyle
  • Are dedicated to community and school
  • Have a strong sense of caring and responsibility
  • Have the ability to overcome life’s challenges
  • Inspire others
  • Are between ages 8 to 18

Four award recipients are chosen each year and receive a $3,000 bursary, provided by SaskPower, to be used for post-secondary education. For more information, please go to https://swna.com/junior-citizen-of-the-year/. The deadline for nominations is March 31st, 2022.

Stacey Levitt Memorial Award

The Stacey Levitt Memorial Award was created in memory and celebration of Stacey’s life by her family through Parachute. This award encourages Canadian youth to embody Stacey’s qualities and ideals and Parachute’s overarching goals of a long life lived to the fullest, understanding the importance of risk management and injury prevention. The Levitt family awards each year’s selected recipient $2,500 to help them live their life to the fullest. The award could be put toward an educational endeavor, engagement in sports and investment in a travel experience. These pursuits would have resonated with Stacey, who loved school, sports and travel. Terry Fox Humanitarian Award

The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award ($28,000 dispersed over four years) is open to students of all abilities who are pursuing a degree or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution. Recipients are selected for their dedication to the humanitarian ideals of Terry Fox to improve human welfare, make a difference, and have a positive impact on community and others, their courage in overcoming obstacles (physical, financial, etc.), and definite marks of distinction and persistence in the pursuit of excellence in academic, athletic, and civic life. Canada Post Awards for Indigeneous Students

The Canada Post Awards for Indigenous Students celebrate the hard work and determination of Indigenous peoples who have embraced a renewed pursuit of learning. The awards are open to all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples who have been out of school for one year or more, who have since decided to return to an educational system, and who have now been back at school for at least one year. Grade 12 Awards: École St Mary High School Graduation

Information about Grade 12 Awards to be presented at the Graduation Exercises on June 23rd, as well as a link to an application form, is available in the River section of Edsby. The closing deadline for award applications is Tuesday, May 25th at 3:30 p.m. Nominations for Most Gentlemanly and Deportment are due by Friday, May 14th by sending a message to Mr. Dwayne Gareau. Voting will occur Monday, May 31st to Friday, June 4th.

Agriculture / Rural Community Award: 3 x $500

The district 32 Agriculture, Development, and Diversification Board (ADD Board) is offering a total of three $500 awards to Grade 12 students graduating in 2021. To apply, students must be pursuing post-secondary agricultural training or other post-secondary education (university or technical) that will serve a rural agriculture-based community in 2021. As well, students must prepare a submission (250-500 words) that addresses the theme: “How will your post-secondary education make agriculture or your rural community a better place?” For additional information about the award and the application process, please visit http://bit.ly/AwardGrade12. The application deadline is June 15, 2021.

Bourse Canadian Parents for French: Gr 9 – 12

Canadian Parents for French – Prince Albert offre une bourse pour un ou une élève de chaque niveau scolaire de la 9e à la 12e année. Les candidates et les candidats doivent démontrer un certain leadership et un intérêt pour la langue française. Les bourses sont d’une valeur de 100 $ pour la 9e à la 11e année et de 300 $ pour la 12e année. La date limite pour soumettre le formulaire est le 7 mai 2021. SIA AGROLOGY AWARD: $1,000

The Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists (SIA) offers six $1,000 scholarships for Grade 12 high school students entering a post-secondary program related to agrology. Agrology is the application of science to agriculture, bioresources, food and the environment by professionals. The profession of agrology addresses many of today’s critical issues in production agriculture, food safety and environmental quality. Conexus Youth Leadership Award: $1,500

The Conexus Youth Leadership Award recognizes graduating high school students who show leadership in everything they do and are guided by the cooperative principles. Conexus will award ten grade 12 students across Saskatchewan with $1,500 and recognize them through our social media channels. The application deadline is April 16, 2021.
