Students in Grade 5- Grade 12 may enter the contest by writing an essay (300 words or less) based on someone they think made the biggest impact (positive or negative) on Canadian society in 2021. Prizes are awarded in two grade levels: Grade 5-8 and Grade 9-12. Two winners will be selected in each level: Grand Prize is $3,000 for the student and $1000 for the Department/Classroom of the teacher. Terry Fox Humanitarian Award

The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award ($28,000 dispersed over four years) is open to students of all abilities who are pursuing a degree or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution. Recipients are selected for their dedication to the humanitarian ideals of Terry Fox to improve human welfare, make a difference, and have a positive impact on community and others, their courage in overcoming obstacles (physical, financial, etc.), and definite marks of distinction and persistence in the pursuit of excellence in academic, athletic, and civic life. TD Scholarships for Community Leadership: $70,000

TD Scholarships are open to students across Canada who are in Grade 12 and have demonstrated outstanding community leadership. There are 20 scholarships valued at up to $70,000. You can apply at www.td.com/scholarship .The application deadline is November 15th, 2021.

 

Schulich Leader Scholarship

The Schulich Leader Scholarship is a prestigious entrance scholarship awarded to a high school graduate enrolling in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) program at one of 20 partner universities. The nominated student can win one of 25 engineering scholarships at $100,000 or one of 25 science, technology, or math scholarships at $80,000. The criteria include academic excellence, leadership, and financial need. It is important to note that students who are planning for a career as a medical practitioner or researcher (doctor, dentist, nurse, psychologist, pharmacist, optometrist, etc.) are NOT eligible to apply.  This scholarship is for entrepreneurial-minded innovators outside of the medical community. École St. Mary High School can only nominate ONE candidate and nomination is competitive. U of R Early Admission Days for High School Students: October 17th – October 28th

Early Admission Days for High School Students is a special application period designed to help students fill out their University of Regina application. Students will have their application (reduced fee) processed within a week, and if admissible, receive conditional acceptance. Students must submit your online application, and send in their unofficial transcripts and application fee by October 28, 2021 to be eligible. Unofficial transcripts can be sent to: enrolment.services@uregina.ca. University of Alberta Presentation

The University of Alberta will be presenting to prospective students of École St. Mary High School on Thursday, October 28th from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The presentation will cover programs, campus life, and admission requirements. It is also an excellent opportunity for students to have any of their questions answered. Horatio Alger Canadian Scholarships

The Horatio Alger Association of Canada will be awarding 160 scholarships of $5000. The deadline to apply is Monday, October 25th 2021, 5 pm EST. Applicants must be a Grade 12 student with plans to enter university in the fall of 2022, demonstrate critical financial need ($65,000 or less annual net income per family is required), be involved in co-curricular and community service activities, display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, and maintain a minimum grade percentage of 65. Loran Scholarship

The Loran Foundation seeks to recognize students that demonstrate character, leadership potential, and service to the community. They are looking for young people who deeply value honesty, are curious by nature, and are interested in a wide range of subjects. The scholars they select are willing to take meaningful risks, show a sustained commitment to service in the community, have taken the initiative to create positive changes and are interested in working toward a better world. 36 Loran Awards are available across Canada at up to $100,000 over 4 years. Students can submit their applications at apply.loranscholar.ca. They may also view the award overview, information sheet, sample application form, and a recording or a 2022 Loran Award Information Session. The deadline to submit all applications for the Loran Award is Wednesday, October 13th before 8:00 pm ET. All eligible students will be welcome to apply by filling out the application, uploading a transcript, and naming a reference.
