Skills Canada Opportunity

École St. Mary High School is looking for one student to participate in the Job Skill Demonstration at the Provincial Skills Canada competition in Regina on Friday, April 13, 2018The Job Skill Demonstration requires the student to present a 15-30 minute demonstration of a trades job skill to a panel of judges. For a list of contest descriptions, contact Mr. Thalheimer or Mr. Welter or visit the website: https://www.skillscanadasask.com/skills-competition/provincial-skills-competition/contest-descriptions  (carpentry, cooking, electronics, graphic design, job search, mechanical CADD, photography, public speaking . . .) The winner of the provincial competition receives a trip to compete in the National competition in Edmonton in June. This competition offers students the opportunity to display their skills to others and looks great on future job applications. If you have a skill that meets the criteria on the website, are comfortable with public speaking and presentation, and are interested in participating, please see Mr. Thalheimer or Mr. Welter in room 245, as soon as possible. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 2ndApply quickly as the school is only allowed to enter one student for this competition.

Mining Engineering Technology Program Presentation

Join current students, faculty, and alumni to learn more about the Mining Engineering Technology program. The morning will include software demos, tours, student project displays, equipment displays, and a program overview presentation. This event will be held February 16, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Saskatoon Campus at 55-33rd Street in the Mining Engineering Technology Building. Canadian Parents for French Scholarships

Canadian Parents for French is offering 4 scholarships for French Immersion students, one per grade level. Grade 9 to 11 scholarships are $100, Grade 12 is $300. If you are interested, please see the office or Mr. Joncas in Rm 238. The deadline for application is May 4, 2018.

Junior Citizen of the Year Award

The Junior Citizen of the Year award has honoured the youth of Saskatchewan for over 40 years. The program is sponsored by The Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association, in partnership with SaskPower, and the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan.  These prestigious awards are given to kids who: Have a positive lifestyle, Are dedicated to community and school, Have a strong sense of caring and responsibility, Have the ability to overcome life’s challenges, Inspire others, Are between ages 8 to 18.  Four award recipients are chosen each year and receive a $3,000 bursary provided by SaskPower, to be used for their post-secondary education. For more information, please go to www.swna.com The call for nominations is now open. Deadline for nominations is March 31st, 2018.

First Nations University at École St Mary High School

First Nations University will be at École St. Mary High School on Thursday, January 18, 2018. They will have a booth set up in the Commons over the lunch hour (12:00 p.m. -1:30 p.m.) to meet with students and answer questions.
